Default Report - New Elite 7 HDI

Tried out new Elite HDI 7 yesterday, I had damaged the transducer cable and was wondering if it would ever work like it was supposed to. (put screw dead center of cable) My brother did a good job splicing the cable using Scotch sleeves. heat shrink and tape. Called Brian at BBG Marine and he suggested I give it a try. The splice was between the TM head and the deck, so water was not a factor. The unit was bright and worked well. Keep in mind I have nothing to compare this to. An " off course" alarm came on, My fault!!! The unit lost bottom twice, again I feel this was my fault. ( settings) Fish ID seems to show larger fish. Bottom detail was really something. Held bottom at top speed of 30 MPH plus. Going through the learning curve will be a challenge to an old guy. TAKES LONGER ON MY LEARNING CURVE THESE DAYS. I will be checking things out while on simulator in the yard. I would appreciate anyone with one of these units , please pass along any tips or suggestions. I am not an electronics wizard and could use any help..... Thanks

sounds like you're on the right track. A lot of times in muddy water with a whole lot of particles and debris your unit will loose the bottom. I have found on my unit that if i keep it on "general fishing" mode this is prevented. You would think that "shallow water" mode would work best for this but it doesn't. I keep my contrast down to about 60 percent on the DI side of things too. Overall it's a great unit. I hardly ever look at traditional sonar anymore. To me The DI renders it useless.

I just received this same unit from BBG yesterday. I can't wait to get it on the boat and try it out. I have never had anything more than a basic fish finder so I am sure my learning curve will take a little while. I hope you enjoy your new unit.
