your boating experience is very important and a weather radio a must for a lake like Huron!

then your budget and do it yourself ability will add gear to your rig. bow mount, and stern trolling motor are a must for better boat contol, elctronics you can buy some inexpensive that will give you bottom and depth knowlege and should show structure with a lots of time learning the unit. I fish out of a 16 ft lowe with a 25 and love it but i know when its time to get off the lake and have learned thru years of boating how to navigate waves and wind and current. the 14 footer is adequate for smooth water and small lakes and rivers but dont push mother nature she always wins
    good luck

I fish Lake Erie in a 16' Triton aluminum. Bare bones with a 30 HP Evinrude tiller. Great boat but be REAL CAREFUL on the big lakes in these small boats. It gets bad quick. The Triton is real lite. I went to Tractor Supply and bought a 1" thick horse mat, black thick rubber, cut it with a razor knife and put it between the seats as a floor mat. It's heavy and added some stability to the boat plus it nice to walk on. I always carry an electric tolling motor and two batteries just in case. Be careful.

In a 14 footer? Toledo Bend down here gets rough in a hurry sometimes, so I tend to stay close. Can't imagine that in one of those great lakes.

If you are going out on Huron in a 14 ft aluminum boat, you need a wheel barrow for your balls.
