What model Riptide do you have? My SP does not have the groove.

Can't remember, may be the ST. I just know it's exactly like the Terrova.

I have the 36V Terrova IPilot and have never had an issue with the batteries draining, even if setting in the garage for two or three weeks. As long as it is in the stowed position, it shouldn't be drawing any current. I have a disconnect plug on mine but have never unplugged it in 2 years.

And my TM self deployed on rough water at 45 MPH. Shattered the shaft, broke the prop, and snapped the 597 HD di transducer cable. All told, about $500.00 to replace everything. Now I have a bungi cord holding it down PLUS put the depth adjustment knob all the way down to the bottom of the shaft. Sickening feeling as I watched it go overboard with no warning or time to shut down before it hit the water.

Then I had to get the exploded (and greatly expanded) shaft through the sleeve to get it out of the water and locked down so I could drive the seven miles back to the ramp....in the 25 MPH winds.....and rain.....and spray. And I didn't catch any fish....but my truck started and ran fine, always a plus on a day like that.
