Well, I've got the same problem with mine. Speed jumps all over the place, and looses gps signal randomly. I have a 365i unit and it is rock solid and matches the speed of my Ipilot. My Ipilot and 365i will read the same speed of .6 mph while the 788 is jumping from 0 to 2 to everything in between. Can't use it to troll with. It must be a design fault if they are all doing the same thing. Too bad, because other wise I like the unit.

Do you know what software version you are running in your 788 unit TxBigRed?

This is the file I downloaded to the unit about a month ago. I reset the unit to factory defaults before flashing.

That (6.570) is the current software TxBigRed. Thanks, I had an Engineer asking about this.
You should call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks about this in the morning. If you call at 8:01 AM (central time) you will get them when they first start so there should be no waiting to get your call answered.

Can you remember what software version you were running in your 788ci HD DI unit?
Just updated it to the latest SW while all this is going on, hoping it would fix it. No luck! I update every time a new release comes out. Been like this since I've had it no matter what SW I install!

Just wanted to add a side note to this thread.

I am obviously not happy about the problems I'm having with this unit. By and large I have had good luck with my Hbirds and had great Customer service.

I have talked to about 3 or 4 HB Reps. this time and have been assured that this problem will be resolved to my satisfaction.

Thanks for your attention to this issue, HB folks.

Actually Greg the 6.570 is what I was running last. I updated to the 6.590 while all this was going on. It does this with any software that is in it.

During my PO'd rants I failed to mention that, like TxBigRed, my unit frequently gives me a message that I have no GPS fix.

    Thanks Wiskers.
I was told that your unit was ‘flagged’ so that when it gets here it will not go through the normal service cycle. Not sure who will end up looking at this but several are interested in it now. I’ll take a look at it too if I’m not stuck in a meeting or classroom.

    Wiskers,

If you get yours fixed be sure to post back on this thread. I really do not want to send my unit back in at the start of the good Crappie fishing down here in Texas.....maybe after May when it starts getting a tad warm..

I'm gonna send mine in next week when I have to go back to work for a month.

I'm 100% positive it is an internal Antenna issue. I had an opportunity to hook it up to a brand new AS GR HS today & it worked flawlessly. The HDOP was at .60 and the EPE was 1 ft with and enhanced fix. No jumping around or anything. Went into the menu and changed it back to the internal antenna and it went totally NUTS!

I have confidence that the HB folks will get it lined out 1 way or another. I raise a lot of cane but they are good people and have always done me right in the past.
