Shouldn't, the ducer that comes with it should work. First version of side imaging. Deeper the water further out to the side you can see. Not very effective in shallow water but should be a good depth finder. I'd try it and see how you like it. Fish under boat solid, fish out to side should be hollow with a left or right arrow to show you which side of bot they are on. Think there was another ducer you could buy that was more of a side shot but not a lot more info than your getting now.

That is the old tri beam model they came out with quite a while back. Here is the manual for it if you need it. http://store.humminbird.cust.shopatr...ment/400tx.pdf

The optional transducer is the WideSide transducer, which we still sell.

Greg.. Do you have access to the HB "cartoon" depiction for the tri-beam WS so the user can see the shapes of the 3 separate beams...??

(I can't find it on the HB website)...

I had one on my last boat for many years but let it go with the boat when I sold it last year. Now I have a different boat and I am in the middle of installing a HDS7 & LLS2 on it.

Yeah, wouldn't waste any money. If it's in your budget to add a new unit with GPS, it'd be worth your while.
