The new AS GPS HS antenna will, indeed get rid of the "Donut"....with limitations....
The 1st thing to understand with this antenna is that "Heading" and "Course" are different....
"Heading" means which way the antenna is "pointed"...
"Course" means which way the antenna is "moving" ...
The AS GPS HS antenna casing has a mark on 1 edge indicating to mount the mark toward the front of the boat....
This gives the unit knowledge of which way (on the Earth's surface) the boat is "pointing" at all times....even stationary....
When the boat movement slows to below 0.6mph... the "boat shaped" icon will stop on the screen (just like the "donut" did....)
At this point, if the boat moves enough on the Earth's surface that the GPS recognizes a different lat & long coordinate...the "boat shaped" icon will "jump" to the new lat & lon on the screen...(this may be as little as 1-5 ft on the water depending on the accuracy of the GPS at the time)...
The "boat shaped" icon on the screen will continue to "point" in the direction the bow of the boat is "pointing"....Even if the "newly recognized lat & lon coordinate is in a different direction than the boat is "pointed"....
So...in effect ...the "boat shaped" icon could be "pointing" N while the icon is actually moving S on the screen...(boat drifting backwards on the water in this case)..
Clear as mud...??
