    Default Navionics

    They say don't do it.
Has anyone pt a Navionics card directly in there computer?

Navionics say it will permently destroy the card. I would believe it's to protect them from being copied, which is understandable.

If anyone has I'd like to hear about your experience.

    A PM would be fine.

    Just curious.

I just thought maybe some of these computer Guru's may hve tried it. I saw some on E-bay that I don't recognise and that got me to thinking about if they were copies or not.

After all, a FF is nothing more then a computer.

My guess is that the card has a non-standard file system that "looks" like a standard FAT-type system to computer operating systems, but if they start messing with it they can't read it and may damage it if they try to write to it.

I guess that makes more sense to me then an automatic self destruct circuit.

I bought a Navonics card last Friday, and it came with a USB plug-in adapter. I plugged it in as instructed and downloaded the updates to it from their website.

i have plugged mine in, you supposedly can download the navionics app and view lakes on your computer, i have tried and tried and cant' get it to work but it did not erase the lakes, it works fine in my fish finder, this was a 2012 model card.

I can't be 100% sure this guy works for Navionics but his user name at sideimagingsoft.com is navionic

His post here ...navonics card says plugging the card into a pc will not destroy the card....

I still don't think I'd risk it unless instructed by the Navionics update or PC app sequence...dang cards cost too much to gamble...

I do it all the time--but the only reason you should be putting it in your computer is to update it other than that there is no need as you can not view anything useful on the card with your computer--you can see the actual files but you don't want to play with them

I just plugged mine in last night and updated it.When you 1st purchase card I thought you run it through your pc to update it ,because it doesnt have updates on it from sitting on the store shelf.Plus you D/L a map for your pc as a bonus, to look at and scout lakes while your browsing this wonderful Crappie site.
