Just start the unit up and when it finds the satellites and starts showing the Chart View; zoom out and use the cursor controls to go to a lake that is covered by the mapping card to see if there is any added detail. You can also do the same thing if the unit is running in the Simulator mode like in a store’s show room.
Ok many thanks will try that this evening.

The "Forced Simulator" mode is a great tool in the HB units...

I can sit at home with my unit and study potential fishy looking spots on the map and even drop waypoints onto areas that I may want to check out when I get to the lake...

FYI ..."Forced Simulator" mode is different the the "Point of Sale Simulator" mode...

"Forced Simulator" mode will save any waypoints or routes you create... "Point of Sale Simulator" mode will not...

"Forced Simulator" mode can be activated by powering on the unit, and while the welcome screen is still showing, press the "Menu" button... Choose "Simulator" from the popup window choices, and then press "Exit" to activate the "Forced Simulator" mode...

card is good--and the updates have some good stuff (channel highlighted) plugged it into another unit and all was well so all should be fine in my unit.

This is the same way my 1197 reacts after I've had the Navionics card out of the unit....and it's something I still don't understand...

The Navionics data is "overlayed" onto the base map background....so I don't think the Navionics data is ever really stored into the unit internal memory....this would seem it likely that the Navionics data would have to be loaded and "overlayed" each time the unit is powered on....

But it seems quicker when just powering on the unit than if the card has actually been removed...which takes longer to load and "overlay" the Navionic data...

Maybe it's just a mystery of life...

Yep--I think that is it--just a mystery--I would think it has to do with GPS maybe? and how it actually does the overlay as you are correct--nothing on the card is stored on the unit--I guess it just mean I need fish more and keep the unit on more

I could see 2 map cards as an option for someone who happens to fish different lakes on different region Navionics cards....they could insert both region map cards and then change the setting to the card they wanted to view...

Or a person that like some aspects of their Navionics card and some aspects of their Lakemaster card...they could insert both cards and then change the setting to the card they wanted to view at the time...
