Sometime I think electronics are like baits. They are made more to catch the fisherman than the fish. I guess if you have deep pockets it's fun to delve into all the new electronics and gadgets. They sure are making advances, but for simple working or retired fishermen, the prices are getting out of hand. A crappie fisherman could find a decent boat for the cost of a piece of new electronics.

I have the 7 touch with structure scan on my boat at the helm and a hds 5 on the bow. The 5 on the bow plugs directly in to the 7 at the helm and reads off the structure scan from the 7. Its a very cool setup as I do not have to have the structure scan box installed in the boat since its all build in to the 7.

The combo works very well, I think once the 9s come out in december I will replace the 5 on the front with the 9 touch.

I think I've mentioned on more than 1 occassion that the only reason I chose HB was due to total number of hardware pieces needed to get the features I needed for my fishing style...

Now that the HDS touch has incorporated the Structure Scan into the head unit (thus eliminating the need for the LSS Module)...the only extra hardware now needed is the LSS Xducer...(total - 1 head unit, 2 Xducers, external GPS antenna if wanted to upgrade from internal GPS antenna)..

Like I said in the opening post....

    It's definately getting interesting...

Looks like there is a 7....in stores now..

    And a 9 and a 12... Coming in Dec...

It's interesting that the new "touch" models have more screen ratio to plastic bezel ratio....(Lowrance removed the buttons)

This means bigger screens without much bigger overall head unit footprint...(I think I read that the "touch" 12 will fit into the Gen1&2 10inch gimbal bracket...)
