    Default HB 998 transducer failure

Anyone else had one of these expensive jewels go out a few days after the warranty runs out. This bites!!!!!! The reason i changed from lowrance was the transducers didn't last. Wonder if disney world sales fish finders? Sounds like they are all pretty much mickey mouse. Give me a string with knots and a good sized rock. You can buy alot of string for $1800.00. most rocks are free.......

If it was that close to going out after the warranty; I would go ahead and call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks and ask nicely that a new transducer be sent to you for free. A lot of times they will give you a little more warranty time if you ask nicely.

yep its the ducer. have another setup on the tracker. plugged it in and its fine. also tried another one that was tied to a 997. worked as well. thats how they tell you to check it, if you happen to have $269.00 laying around for a spare. you probably won't hear of another one going out. i just ain't living right.........

It happens ....I just replaced mine. There are other places cheaper than HB.... unless it is free....use Google.

humminbird says i buy a new one. send mine in, if it isn't a broken wire or abuse of some kind, they credit me back. so i pay full blown retail and take a chance after a year that this thing hasn't broken a wire or hit a bump. guess thats the best they can do. didn't really think this thing thru when i bought this unit. should have checked the prices of transducers. got 750.00 tied up in pucks on two boats. what was i thinking..............
