    Default Winter FF/Trolling motor project

My winter project is to get all the new stuff I'm putting on my boat and do it all at one time, correctly. What I'm afraid of is not doing something correctly or needing to add something over after the fact.

I know on the bow I'll have the MinnKota Ilink Terrova. I recently picked up a HB998 si so I'm set on the fish finder for now. I would like to have the primary mount in front for fishing but also have a secondary mount near the dash for moving around, etc.

So from the rear where the 998's transducer is mounted the cable runs to the dash and into a "Y" to allow it to connect to the 998 at the dash and then run to the front? At the front run the rear cable and the cable from the US2 in the MinnKota into a switch and then into the 998 when mounted in front?

Is there anything I'm missing? I'm sure it's all simple but I just want to make sure it's simple once.

    Thx

    If I'm understanding correctly..

You are wanting to use 1 head unit with 2 separate mounting stations...

At each mounting station (bow and console) you are going to need:

    1. Gimbal mount
    2. 12v power supply to a HB power cord that will plug into head unit
    3. Xducer cable
    4. GPS cable

Are you planning on using the US2 2d sonar at the bow station ...and the HDSI xducer 2d at the console station...??
Are you going use 1 xducer(at the transom)or 2 xducers (bow and transom) for the SI/DI..??
Are you going to use 1GPS puck (at the transom) or 2GPS pucks (bow and transom) for GPS...??

tsaints I am watching this one real close because I just bought a Terrova US2/iPilot and I am not sure what to do about the hook up myself. I am thinking of hooking up my Lowrance 322c to the trolling motor transducer to eliminate the DONUT and use my Humminbird 997c for searching and the Lakemaster Map System I bought to work on the H-Bird and the Contour-Elite Program for my Laptop. I tried out the Spot lock on the trolling motor yesterday and so far I think this is going to be a great set up. Now if Humminbird would cut out the coffee breaks "O".... Ferdi aka Fred

    Yes

I was thinking at the bow of using both the US2 and the HBSI. At the console just the HBSI xducer from the transom.

Are you going use 1 xducer(at the transom)or 2 xducers (bow and transom) for the SI/DI..??
I was thinking of the HBSI xducer that comes with the 998si on the transom. The US2 xducer obviously in the trolling motor at the bow.

Are you going to use 1GPS puck (at the transom) or 2GPS pucks (bow and transom) for GPS..??

This was something I hadn't thought of. Thanks for catching it. At $125 or so a pop I was thinking of just one GPS puck intially in my head mounting it out of the way on the transom as I had read about keeping it close to the main xducer for accuracy on the FFinder. Do they make a cable to run it to the console and "Y" it off forward to the bow also. OR, could I mount the puck near the console so it is alomst equally between the transom and bow xducers for "splitting the difference" in accuracy?

I would just use each xducer (Transom at the console. Bow at the bow) IF both did the same job. However from the HB instruction manual I take it that the US2 xducer does not do side imaging which, as I interpret it, would defeat the purpose of having a side imaging FFinder. I realize it would still function in the other ways but why reduce it's options? Or am I interpreting it wrong?
Also, in installing these cables, I would like to someday in the future have a FFinder at both positions and having the cables already there would make it easy.

Thank you for your responses and feel free to suggest something I might miss. That's whay I want to plan now so the job has everything it needs when the time comes.

    First... You are correct that the US2 is 2d only (1- 83KHz 60degree cone shaped beam...plus....1 - 200kHz 20 degree cone shaped beam)...this means no SI/DI from the US2...

HB does make an AS SYSLINK cable for connecting 2 head units to 1 GPS puck...(I would confirm with Greg if it's feasable to have 1 of the 2 pigtails "open" at all times as you will only be using 1 head unit connected at any one time in your present setup thought scenario)...

This is the HB depiction of the AS SYSLINK...

It is possible to mount the GPS puck midway between the HDSI transom mount xducer and the US2 trolling motor xducer....BUT...BUT....BUT...

This installation scenario is adding built in GPS position error above and beyond the inaccuracies already within consumer based GPS ...(If you mark a waypoint and the puck is 6ft away from the xducer...then consider GPS accuracy can be 6-15ft...add those 2 possible inaccuracies together and you could have difficulty finding your structure)...

That's something only you can decide if you can live with...

There's always an option of buying ...1 extra GPS puck, 1 extra HDSI xducer, 1 extra gimbal mount, 1 extra power cord, 1 extra cable collector....for the second mounting station (new or used) ...and when funds are available... Buy the "CHO" version HB package ..(CHO is "control head only)..

Being that the US2 is only 2d as stated, would there be situations that one would use it instead of the functions available from the HBSI xducer?
Or is everything one would want in the HBSI and the US2 would be unused by most? I was thinking, hey it comes on the motor. might as well use it.
