Go to your friendly electronics repair shop and borrow a Capacitor decade box . That box will have 2 leads, connect 1 lead to positive the other to negative as close to the fishfinder as possible. Run the fishfinder and watch the interference while clicking to different capacitor values on the box. When you find the one that kills the interference note the value, Buy one of that value and strap it in.
well i have run a ground from the negative on the bird the to transducer clamp and have wrapped it really well around the transducer cord and it has helped some but still got a lot of interference, getting ready to call humming bird then the local electrical repair shop.
also as a side note i have a 898 at the console that i get zero interference with.
Had the same problem with my new boat and done all the steps Humminbird and the friends on C.C gave me but the only thing that worked was I took both my units 1198 on the console and 998 from the bow and ran the power and ground to a seperate battery I mounted under my console and now I'm good to go. Got a buddy who had to do the same thing and he's the one who told me about it. I have same TM also and exact same problem so give the seperate battery a shot.
This is a normal sequence in RF and the "Maximizer" feature of the Minn Kota trolling motors...
The "Maximizer" is not used at WOT...100%
The "Maximizer" is a known RF creator....at 1-99%...
We have to remember that DFs don't create RF ... They are just sensitive enough to pick RF up that created somewhere else in your boat...

i had the batteries charging this evening and it was picking up the charger though it was very slight, i connected the power to a seperate battery and that did nothing, talked to a nice lady at humminbird and she is sending me a few things to try but she did say that in a few cases it was not eliminated, i double checked the 3 amp fuse in the head of the terrova and replaced it for the heck of it and that wasn't it either, and i can't find anyone that has a capacitor decade box as of yet. ya'll keep your fingers crossed.
well i figured i would give an update, i have yet to find anyone that has a decade capacitor box, but i did recieve three chokes from hummingbird, they are a bit larger and round and one piece compared to the square two piece ones i got from radio shack, i put one on the power one on the transducer and one on the gps like the nice girl at humminbird said to, i then put the other chokes i had on right where the cord comes out of the transducer, one where the wire comes out of the foot pedal and one where the foot pedal cord comes out of the motor and ofcourse i already had two on the main power cord for the trolling motor, this cleared it up about 95%, i believe i can live and fish with it effectively like it is now, not perfect but dang close. i do wonder though if i got another choke on the power cord and the transducer if it may take it all out?
Gobbler... has HB recomended this ...??

they are supposed to be sending me one but they were out of stock and it would be a couple weeks, i will probably add it to the collection and see if it takes out the last little bit of interference. the girl i talked to said that thing was about a 50/50 shot.
