Default connecting 2 HB 998'S WITH ethernet cable

i have recently connected two 998's with a ethernet cable, one being a 2 yr old unit with waypoints saved and the other being brand new, no waypoints. both units have shared waypoints turned on. no waypoints appearing on new unit. what am i doing wrong?

i have done this before with the old 998 and a 898. worked fine. sold 898 and replaced with new 998, it is not pulling waypoints over, what gives?

    Here is info on Ethernet...
    Humminbird Ethernet Overview

If your older units were previously Interlinked...Ethernet is a completely different animal...

Does the 2yr old unit have the latest software update that adds Ethernet functionality...??

As I do not use 2 units connected by Ethernet...

I will defer this one to Greg...(or someone with first hand knowledge)...

Rickie, you were on the right track here: are both units running the current software version (6.420)?

The units do not copy the waypoints from one unit to another when Ethernet connected. Rather they use the other unit as an external memory device and can display and interact with the waypoints on the other unit; so the other unit has to be on so that it can share the waypoint data.

Trackplots are not shared over the Ethernet, although both units can start making the same trackplot if they are both on when you travel that course in your boat.

You may want to get a copy of the Ethernet operations guide. Send me a direct e-mail and I can send you back a link to download it.

Had a “duhhhh” moment earlier when I posted.

For others looking for the Ethernet manual: it is available on the Humminbird web site under any of the Ethernet accessories like the AS-EC10E cable:
    AS EC 10E
Look under the “SUPPORT” tab located at the right side of the page under the description and price. Once selected you should be able to download the manual from the “Download Product Manual” text.

Not sure if this direct link will work or not:
