    Default Navionics SD Card Question

Can you totally wipe out a Navionics Card? I have the South edition and it will not not work on either my 798 or 1198. It's like it's not there, please help. I'd hate to have to spend another $100 for a new one.

Yes you can. These mapping cards are on flash memory devices which, like any other electronic device, can fail for a number of reasons. Be sure that it is your mapping card that is bad by borrowing another map card from someone else and testing it in your 798 or 1198 unit.

I was told that you DO NOT want to insert them into your home computer. That would wipe 'em clean. Well, I didnt try it so I dont know...was just what he said.

It would be a wierd coincidence for both units to have the same issue...but you can try this...

Take the card out of the unit...
    Power on unit...
Hit "Menu" twice to get into the main menu system..
Tab over to the "Chart" tab...
    Cursor down to "Chart Select"..
    Set to "Auto"...
    Exit out of menu system..
    Insert card...(in both/either card slots)...
Is there a popup at the top of the screen that says "Loading Maps"...??

    If not...
Go thru the same steps but when you get to the "Chart Select" setting...
    Choose "Left Card Slot"...
    Exit out of menu system...
Insert card....(in the left card slot)
Is there a popup at the top of the screen that says "Loading Maps"...??

    If not...
You can try these same steps in your other unit...

If still no luck... I'd say your card is toast...

rnvinc, Tried all that like you said but no luck. Even restored default setting and tried again. Oh well I fried it somewhere along the line I guess. Just going to suck it up and get a new one. Thanks for the help.

I got it in September 2011. I went to the link and it has to be less than 2 months. Thanks for the update though.

You would need the Navionics pc program that reads the mapping card to plan things on a pc...Windows or Mac does not have a program that reads the format of a Navionics card....

You can also put the card in your HB unit, force the unit into "Simulation" mode, and mark waypoints and plan trips right on the unit itself...

I've spent a lot of time studying contours and humps and such...(sitting in the boat in the garage and sitting in the house with my unit hooked to AC power).. Then mark waypoints right on the map to be investigated when I get back onto the water...
