Thread: Checking for upgrades

I hope someone can give you some answers as I plan to purchase a used 978 next weekend.....

I just bought a used 798 and registered it although I don't know if the previous owner had registered it or not. Humminbird side imaging forums has a software thread with all the updates.

Hummingbird side imaging forums? Is that on HB website?

Go http://www.humminbird.com and register your units. When you register them it will show what version software you have and if there are new one's for you to download. For the 597 you will need a plain SD card not SDHC--your looking for 2GB only. Not sure if the 700 series will take a bigger card--but you don't need much memory anyway. When you go to do the updates--make sure you reset ALL to factory default. Then all you do is put in the card and follow the prompts. It's pretty easy. You can also go to a screen in the units to see what version software you have--the current on the 597 is

Thanks guys..I just registered on the Hb forums website as well.... Im going to register units tomorrow, but can they be registered twice? Not sure if previous owner has already registered. And do you mean reset the unit to defaults before upgrading? Will I loose gps coordinates?

Yeah--I registered the gewber known as Big H's so i could get the updates for him and got his unit fixed up--no problems. What I would do is download your waypoints to a SD card--clear all from your unit--then do the reset. You always want to have at least two SD cards anyway. If you don't have it you need to download the Hummingbird PC (create and view waypoints) and if your like me download humviewer (it's not perfect but works good enough) to view your recordings (if you do that type of thing--I do so I can study afterword and make waypoints too)

Thnks kd:. Yes i have hb pc downloaded at home.. I bought the waypoint cards frm rickey and had to go that route... Not sure what humviewer is, but will check it out... Took me awhile to figure out how to get the waypoints i bought frm rickey for the coe lakes to my unit:. And will probally take me just as long with this... Thanks again!!
