    Default Structure Scan Question

I know there are two transducers involved. Can they both be mounted on a trolling motor or do the have to be transom mounted? How about the Humminbird version? I know I could probably research this by looking through web sites but I'm sure there is someone here who knows all about this and I don't believe in working hard if you don't have to.

On hb units there is just 1ducer and can be mounted on TM or on back of boat.

The Lowrance HDS/Structure Scan system will require 2 transducers if you want to see your 2D /83/200khz returns. The LSS-1/2 only provides down and side scanning.

It will become a real challenge to mount both the new LSS-2 and a 83/200khz transducer on the trolling motor. My understanding is Transducershield and saver has a shield in the works that will hold (and protect) both transducers but I haven't seen it yet.

You could mount both the LSS-1 and the HDS transducers with no problem. The LSS-2 could also be mounted on trolling motor. You would haft to build a bracket but it is no that big a problem. I built mine, but you could have one built by someone that does welding. I made mine out of aluminum, but could be made out of metal.

I didn't really want SI on my trolling motor but did want DI. So instead of buying a LSS-1 to go on my HDS-7 on the bow, I bought a Elite 5X-DSI for less money than a LSS-1 would cost. Now I get GPS/D-2 Sonar on my HDS-7, and the DI on my Elite 5X-DSI. This way there is no switching screens back and forth. I just flop the TM in the water, and I am reading 3 different screen, up and running full time. Here is the bracket I built.

You can see with this bracket, I just butted it up to the trolling motor skeg. But for a LSS-2, there would not be enough room the length of the transducer. So you would need to make the bottom plate longer, meaning you would haft to have a spit for the skeg to fit in, then off to one side of the skeg, mount the LSS-2. This will let you cheat forward with the LSS-2, and cover the distance you would need for the 8"-9" transducer.

Just because no one makes something that will allow you to do something, doesn't mean it can't be done. Just haft to do a little thinking outside the box. Most of the time you even end up with a better product than if you could or would have, if you bought it retail. I barrowed a friends Aluminum Welder, and built my bracket myself for a total of $2.29 for a few bolts. called around and could have had it built by a local welder for $60.00. All the brackets I saw on Web Sites that allowed you to put 2 tranducerson the trolling motor was over $100, IF they made something that fit your need.

Not Available if not the thing I like to hear. If I need something, I get to thinking about what it would take to make this happen. Usuaally in a day or two, Got It.

I owned a HB-1198 and HB-898 at first. Wasn't what I thought it should be, so sold them and bought Lowrance HDS-10 & HDS-7, and I have been happy ever since.

The LSS 2 transducer is longer than the LSS 1 ducer from what I've read. Could mount the LSS ducer on the transom, and the 2d on the TM . The cords are long enough I believe depending on where he HU is mounted and size of your boat

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

I could get them both on the Trolling Motor. The LSS-2 is around 9" long, but it can still be done, if you are wanting it to be on the Trolling Motor. It would require building the bracket, and not buying it.But could still be done.

The new Transducershield and saver TS-LSS2-3D is now available. We carry their products as well. The cost is $224.00 but you get a clean design that won't hang in weeds and the transducers are pretty well protected. Below is a pic of the new shield available for MotorGuide or Minn Kota 24-16V units. They also have a special mount for those units with Universal Sonar. Below is a picture of the shield.

I'll admit that it's pretty but it's pretty pricey too.

Yes sir ! It is a chunk of money.....BUT , to replace the new LSS-2 transducer will run you $250 and the 83/200 ducer is another $70.

With LSS-1, you can easily mod up some plywood. LSS-2, I'd buy the ducer saver.
