If the rremote is stored far enough away from the trolling motor it cuts off by itself. And it probably would even if closeby but would take alot of time. As I said, I cut my remote off every time I pull my tm out of the water and have never had to replace the battery. I fish about 90-100 days a year and have been using the same tm for over a year now. My previous boat I used same tm and remote for over 2 years.
