    Default ethernet and waypoints

i am about to add a second bird to the boat and am gonna connect them via the ethernet cable to share way points, the question i have is, say i am idling around and mark a spot at the console unit does the unit on the bow have to be turned on before i mark it for it to show up or when i go up there to start fishing and turn it on will it just be there. i am assuming the later.

Towards the bottom of the post it states...:

In order for one unit to share its waypoints with another unit two things have to occur:
#1- Share Waypoints must be turned on
#2- Both units must be turned on

From the depictions in that same section of the post it eludes to the idea that this data is not physically transferred into the other unit's memory... But instead ethernet allows each unit to "see" the data that is in the other unit...

So in the case of your scenario....
If you mark a wp at the console, then go to the bow unit..., that wp will show on the bow unit as long as both units are "powered on" and "Share Waypoint" is on...

If you power down the console unit... Then that wp marked at the console unit will not show on the bow unit...

Page 1 of the AS Interlink manual seems to indicate marking a wp on 1 unit will also copy that wp into the Interlink as well as copy into the other control head....

The downside of Interlink is no sonar sharing between units...

Would you have a problem leaving both units powered on in order to share wp's thru the ethernet...??

i don't wanna share sonar i just wanna be able to mark at the console and see it at the bow when i go to run the trolling motor and if i see something i wanna mark at the bow i wanna be able to mark it and be able to crive the boat to it on a different day. i do not wanna share sonar, leaving the back unit on wouldn't bother me as long as the two units didn't interfere with each other, seems with other units i have had on at the same time they would interfere with each other and a sensitivity level high enough to see a 1/16 jig. therefore i always turned the console unit off when i got out of the drivers seat, plus after a 10 hour day it would pull on the battery a bit more, or would it be so little it wouldn't matter?

the sharing sonar thing, how do you decide wich transducer you are reading from if both units are on. i wanna keep this as simple as i can.

The new ethernet firmware adds a selection to the window that pops up when the "Power" button is pressed...

This window has a selection for "Sonar Off"... Which would allow you to mark a wp at the console, select the "Sonar Off" (in 2 button clicks) (to eliminate crosstalk interference), then go to the bow unit where it can "see" the wp created at the console unit...

I can definately see your idea of convenience of marking a wp on the console unit and (on a different day) using only the bow unit and needing that wp that was created at the other unit....

Three things to think about here...
    1. Interlink will probably be eventually phased out
    2. Interlinked units maximum number of wp's is limited to the smaller unit's wp capacity...ethernet allows max in each unit because they are only "seeing" each other's wp's
    3. There is no reason HB couldn't eventually allow phyisical transfer of wp's to another unit thru the Ethernet in a future software update....

There are settings in the network menu which allows assigning which unit uses which item (GPS, sonar)..
