I use a Garmin Summit and it works just fine.

I've used a Garmin GPSMAP 76Cx for several years and love it. Even against today's top of the line products, it compares very well. At the moment, West Marine offers this unit for $170--but plan to kick in another $100 to get a decent map. I fish lots of small lakes and found the "Topo US" add-on maps to be a great addition. If you fish large lakes, you will probably prefer one of the inland lakes map add-ons.
When you read that this unit is waterproof and floats, I assure you that is accurate!
I have a garmin etrex with the inland lake maps add-on - works excellent.
