This unit was working perfectly until last night. Last night the depth started jumping around. I was in 4 ow and it would jump back and forth to 60+ feet with a poor reading. What caused this???

One thing I know for sure is to make sure you have the latest update (6.090) You may want to reset all to default and reset your settings.
make sure the TD is fairly clean, read where dirt/pollen/etc on the TD could affect readings. Also check your battery connections.
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
I also read RF Interference? I know I have some but it is very sporadic so hard to isolated. I’m grounding the batteries this weekend. Hope it helps. I will check for mud and clean the TD since I was in shallow water.
Why does the latest update matter? If it was working fine and I’m happy why would I ever need to update it? Just wondering. Thanks
Some of the updates include fixes to the extact depth problem you are having...something to do with changes in how the unit processes the information it receives from the transducer. I felt the same as you but sometimes it's to your advantage to update even if you see no obvious reason to do so.
I would say there is some interference or something then but really can't say for sure. i would check and make sure your don't have any corrosion and all of your connections are good. Make sure you have a good battery--ie: the easy things first. If all of that pans out and still the same--I would give HB customer service a call. You may have to wait for a bit on hold but it is well worth it--they can help alot.
The latest update fixed my 788 DI depth issues. I am still getting interference from the TM though. The interference doesn't effect depth, just messes up the display.
Some areas of the country are having bigger than normal pollen blooms...
I have read of erratic depth readings attributed to these pollen blooms...
Just a thought...
