Default Help With Using Lakemaster Chip

I was surprised that there was no user guide with the new Lakemaster chip.....must be so easy to use that none is needed, right? Problem is me, surely! I thought I would be able to run down the lake with the Lakemaster showing me channels, so I could navigate through trees at my local lakes. Both lakes are on the chip in HD, but the only time I can really see contour lines is while sitting still, or slow-trolling in a cove. When I'm at speed, the chip is unable to keep anything on my screen but a vague outline of the shoreline and my boat position. I say the chip is unable, but I'm guessing it's the processor in the sonar that isn't keeping up. I have a Huminbird 597 ci hd di with the latest version of software.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal? Or maybe there is something I should be doing that I'm not?

One thing you will want to do is have your chart speed match your boat speed.

The Chart Speed menu setting will not affect the ability of the unit to display or update the data from the mapping card.

What version software is your 597ci HD DI unit running vic n?

That card is pretty processor heavy. It could be that for sure. How fast is your top speed. Mine is 25 or so and my 997 has trouble keeping up but it does show the contours.

    Suggestion from a LakeMaster Rep:
“He should try "North Up" mode, and then find a zoom-out level that minimizes the need to redraw the map. He should also highlight dangerous shallow water in red so he doesn't have to read contour labels at speed.”

I heard back from Lakemaster today. They suggested I check for new firmware, but that was already done when I registered my unit. They asked which orientation I was running, route up, or North up, but they didn't say which was best. I'll switch it to North up. I did zoom out to about 200', and it seemed to help a lot....so just a learning curve. With North up and zooming out, I'm sure it will be fine. I may also follow the suggestion of highlighting shallow water, but my concern is more with channels. These two lakes are pretty much timbered, so staying in the channel is imperative.

    Thanks all

If the lake is pretty level you can use the depth range hilite to color the bottom and channel if it is well defined.
