This will give you the widest range for picking up fish in the outer reaches of the 83kHz 60degree cone ..

And give the best detail of structure in the 200kHz 20degree cone...

Also to make the structure really "pop out" on the 2d sonar view... Set Switchfire to "Max mode" and then adjust sensitivity to a level that shows some surface clutter but not too high to cause extra clutter in the water column...( I generally run my sensitivity up until some widely scattered dots (clutter) start showing up in the water column)...

Another thing that I learned from a HB rep at a seminar is you can lower the sens setting if you set the contrast at a lower setting. I am currently trying this.

Probucktails... The SI image shows where you had just crossed a small ditch or creek...

Was the water depth to the left sloping down away from you creating the darker left side of the image...??

yes, to the left of theimage that you can't see is a drop off to the river channel all the way down this bank, i was actually quartering towards the river channel going from shallow to deeper at an angle. if i had the si set to a wider angle you would see complete black where the river channel is. the black would be ther because the si beam runs right off the top of the ledge and can't get what is deeper than the ledge. iv'e got alot more pictures of crappie on stake beds and brush that i'm going to post when i get time. thanks for the compliments. by the way, the ditch is a creek channel that runs into the river channel

Here are a few more pictures from my SI unit, all are crappie relating to different structure or cover. I put a description on one to help you understand what your looking at. All The white dots are Crappie's!!!!! The SI unit i got is worth more than any rod, reel, lure, in the boat, it's amazing how well it works in finding fish, seeing where their positioned etc, worth it's weight in gold. I couldn't really afford it when i got it but i had sold many muskie bucktails(which i make) and my good old jeep cherokee, bit the bullet and bought one. if i had to do it again, i would sell every rod, reel, lure(except for one rod/reel and crappie tubesof course) and do it again. very effective

This is good info for those who might wonder why 1 side of their SI image "could be" considerably darker than the other....
