Exclamation 998 update fail... Now unit wont turn on

Updated my 998 now that I have my boat back, and did like the directions said to do on HB website. Reset unit to default settings and so on, then inserted the SD card like always, and went through prompts to update to newer software, and then blackness. No picture any longer of any kind. Killed the power to the unit, turned power back on, hit power button on unit, one little blink and nothing. Have tried for an hour to get it to turn on.

Have no idea what went wrong on this update, never had a problem before.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

Did the same thing, had to send my back to Humminbird. They fixed and sent it back! We are the few unlucky ones...

If your unit is still under warranty... It may be best to call HB and see if they want you to send it back...

If your unit is out of warranty.. You may be able to restore the unit programming using the "bootstrap mode"...

I have not had to use this process myself so I cannot tell you much else about the "bootstrap mode"...
The directions seem detailed ... But not too difficult...

    Check the battery's charge level...
    Check the 3amp fuse...
Wiggle the power connection on the back of the unit...

    If none of these help....
    I would suggest calling HB...

I have no idea if using the "bootstrap mode" yourself could possibly void the warranty...

I did not see that information in the sideimagingsoft post...

Try unplugging the power wires from the back. Plug back in and try.

Yea checked all power connections, fuses, batteries, and even put the batteries on charge and it still didnt make a difference. Energy level reads 11.9 so it has enough, and my 1198 powers on just fine. On phone with HB now, on hold......

Whelp, apparently I need 12.7 volts for it to power on. ????? Never had to have that much before. But it has powered on and update was successfully installed. Go figure.

Do you have heavy enough wire coming from the Battery? you could be loosing too much voltage in the wire.
