Default Will Side Image work on a Terrova internal transducer with interlink?

Just talked to a guy that came to my office. He has a V2 80LB. and said he uses side imaging on his internal transducer inside his TM by using the interlink and didnt have to install a external transducer on his TM. Has anyone came across this. I know im still a greenhorn but I thought you had to install the external transducer to get side imaging and I also thought Interlink was phased out since the ethernet cable came out. If I am wrong please let me know since im still pretty new to this and trying to learn as much as possible!!!

The current US2 transducer in Minn Kota motors is not compatible with Down Imaging or Side Imaging....only 2D sonar.

If the US2 transducer is used in conjunction with a Side Imaging fishing system, only 2D sonar will be collected and displayed.

Also, the interlink box is still available but ethernet networking is the preferred alternative for ethernet-compatible units....less expensive and shares more information between/among units.

The US2 is compatible with single or DualBeam finders, but not QuadraBeam or side imaging. I was able to hook my old HB-575 to the US2 and it gave me single and dual beam images, but not the QuadraBeam's side views. The same would probably be true with my HB-1197. If you're going to shell out 2 grand, you sure don't want to lose the side images & will have to use the appropriate transducer.
