    Default Question for 597 Owners

Those of you with transducers on the TM, what transducer are you using? I want to put a ducer up front, and still keep the one on the transom, but there are several choices: I can go with the xnt 9 di t (this is the factory transducer and would need an adapter to mount to the TM)

I can go with an xtm 9 di 25t which is a puck type made to fit a TM. It is cheaper than the other, but it might have narrower beams on the 2D sonar.

Or I can go with one or two other ducers, but I think they don't have DI.

Just curious how others have done theirs.

    Thanks

    vic

If this is a 597ci HD DI model unit, than you need to stick with a DI transducer. Using one of the more standard 2D transducers with your DI unit could result in damage to said unit. Only use DI units with DI transducers.

Yes, Greg, it is the ci HD di unit. And I wasn't really considering anything but the two ducers I have listed. Guess I'm asking whether the xnt transducer is worth $50 more than the xtm? What am I giving up by going with the cheaper unit?

The XTM version will have some additional shielding to help keep the RF from the trolling motor with interfering with the sonar on the DI units. But I do not think that we have started building the XTM versions of these yet.

Yup, that’s the one that will end up working with the 597ci HD DI unit once we build and start shipping them.

Whatever you put on your trolling motor you need protection (transducer guard) to keep from having to buy a new transducer to replace a broken one. I I bought mine @ Transducer Armor :: Home of the "Wee Vee" Guard :: Protection for your transducer . I see they have a guard now for the di & Si transducers. When I bought mine I bought the regular one and had to cut off a little on the front end and back end to fit in front of the long transducer for my new down imaging unit. Looks a lot sturdier than the plastic protectors sold at bass pro or cabelas. I found out about this from humminbird greg on this forum. This is an important item especially if you had to buy a new transducer ($150). Good Luck! Randy

    Thanks Randy and Greg

Greg, back to my original question: Are the beams narrower on the xtm, and how will that affect imaging? Just curious about the big price difference on the HB site. Wonder why they have them on the site if they aren't yet for sale?
