Thread: Diff. Between trolling motors

I currently have a mk 40 transom on my 12 ft flat Jon boat I was thinking going to 55 lb. can anyone tell me if it's actually a big difference and worth it thanks to anyone who will help me

I had a 43# MG on my tracker PT175, and it pulled it just fine, could go all day on it for the most part, as I longline 99% of the time. I did upgrade to a MK Terrova 55 with IP and it pulls it better, but I upgraded for the IP/AP features more than anything, and better speed control via the variable speed control. I would think the 40# you have would do fine. What is your reason for wanting more thrust?

On a 12' Jon boat, it would be like going from a smart car to a mustang. You would notice a major difference in power and speed.

The only thing I noticed when going from at 41 lb to a 70 lb was that the high speed was faster ! The 70 had 5 speed and the 41 had 4 speeds. RR (18 ft Ranger Bass Boat )

I wouldn't imagine it would be worth it at all unless it is the only power on the boat and you have a long run to make. The top speed is going to be big difference. Just normal fishing save money and buy new pole or reel.

I have an M-K 45# Digital Maximizer on a 12 ft. jon boat. A friend has the same motor in 55# on same boat. The only difference is that he can get back to the dock faster when he cranks it full on...which comes in handy when a midwest summer storm comes out of nowhere (no gas engines allowed on the lake). The 45# is no slouch, but the 55# is faster. For the extra $100+ it wasn't worth it to me.

I live in wv and I fish new river which has a lot of swift water and sometimes I can't get through it. Just wondering if the difference is enough to help, now I see it is I think I'm going to upgrade thanx for the help everyone and yes it's the only power I have for now

m fitzko1,If thats the reason ,then I would keep TM and buy new one and use both to get across,then use one,after all when trying to sell it ,you will have to almost give it away
