Default Fishfinder/Transducer on Front of Back of Flatbottom?

I initially was going to put it on the front until I got to thinking that I might bounce it off a stump and break it off or something. I know some people mount it on the back because it's "safer." Where do you suggest I mount the transducer? Could I put the transducer at the front and the fishfinder at the back or vice versa?

Thanks for the help. It's my first time rigging up a fishfinder. Btw, it's a cheap unit, I just want it to work and not break it first time out.

you want to mount the screen where you can see it while fishing, so if you fish from the front of the boat most of the time, then mount the screen up front. You can mount the ducer to the TM whether you mount the TM on the front or the back depending on your circumstances, how you fish, etc., or mount the ducer to the hull. if you fish around stumps and such, there is always that possiblity of damage, but its just part of the game. The only way to avoid that is a shoot thru the hull ducer, but they don't work well on tin boats, only glass. You want to rig the boat up where everything you use for your style of fishing is close at hand for convenience, there is really no "wrong way" to do it, it all depends on how you want it set up for you.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

my vote would be to put the finder at the front and the transducer has to be at the front as well, this will give you the ability to put your bait right over the fish ,brush , shad etc.my boat used to be set up with the ducer at the back and i recently changed it because everything i was seeing on the screen was already at the back of or behind the boat!! you want to be over the fish and stay over the fish not past em !!
