Thank you everyone for your input. I just bought a Hummingbird 798Ci HD SI side imaging unit with GPS. It only has a 5" screen but that is all I have been using for the past 5 years. I am sure I will be looking for help on this one, just like everyone else. Can't wait to start playing with it. Got it at Cabelas for $759. I went to Bass Pro and they were $1100. Couldn't pass up the savings and spent $160 more than what I was planning on spending.

The only thing I would add is that Cabelas add for the $759 HB ..is for the 798ci SI Combo...NOT the 798ci HD SI Combo...

798ci SI Combo is the older "non-ethernet compatible" unit..$759
798ci HD SI Combo is the new "ethernet compatible" unit....$1049

It is still possible to connect this 798ci SI Combo to another HB SI unit with the optional "Interlink" module....

$759 is still a good price...if you don't need ethernet capability....

Glad to hear the reports on the Hummingbird 597. I just ordered the 597 ci HD DI Combo GPS. Probably need to find some 10 year old to educate me on how to use it.

I still don't know what ethernet is or means or does.

In the past, 2 HB units had to be connected using an "Interlink" module...to be able to share info between the 2 units...

Ethernet allows 2 HB units (ethernet capable) to be hooked together without the "Interlink" module... Using only a cable to connect the 2 HB units together...
