    Default up front locator

I have a old lowrance x-15mt/w gps on the console. Am looking for a t/m unit for the front. Question- hummingbird 570di. Lowrance mark 5x dsi or elite-4x dsi? Got $200-$300 to spend. Are there other units as good/better that I should look at? Is the di an advantage?

I bought a mark 5 dsi because I got a good deal on it. It is mounted on the trolling motor. dont think this is the best place to mount a DI/DSI unit because you have to be moving to get best results. dont get the pictures I thought I would and there is not much fine tuning to be done on these units. I would save my money and buy something else if I had it to do over again. They show structure ok but dont show fish very good at all. I have a Hbird 581i mounted on the console and I like it better than the Mark 5 dsi. The 581i has GPS and you can find them on ebay for $250 from time to time. I see NO advantage from the DI on this unit but like I said earlier it is mounted on the trolling motor

One of the great things about the Humminbird DI units is that they also come with the standard 2D sonar in them as well. Just like jusanothajoe’s 581i unit; the 570 DI has two 2D sonar beams built into it. So you will have two DI sonar beams and two 2D sonar beams to choose from.

If you can find them you may also want to look at the 581i DI which is basically the same thing as the 570 DI plus GPS.
