    Default Elite 5 DSI question

I just got my unit today from cabelas an when I was going through the paperwork I seen where it said a antenna an speed/temp. Optional. So does that mean I have to buy those things for my temp an speed to show up on monitor? What exactly does the antenna do for the unit.

No. It has an internal GPS antenna and the transducer will give you water temp. You will get speed from gps

Sometimes the place you want to mount your unit (like in the dash) is blocked from getting a clear view of the sky. An external antenna can fix that and give you better reception.

Don't forget to check out my thread on the Elite 5DSI ... and add your experiences & concerns to it, as you go along. There's a few of us that have had some experience with the unit, and some others (like me) that are yet to really have a chance to use theirs. Anything you can add to it will be greatly appreciated.

Got mine bow mounted, too. Picked up satellite signal real quick. Flipped on the GPS (dual screen) map & it showed me right where I was, & named the lake ... I don't have a SD/map card in it, so it was just using the internal mapping program & only showed the outline of the lake. I didn't play with it much, so I don't know if I can zoom in/out with that function or not. Didn't matter at the time, since I knew where I was Rofl but, it'd be nice to know if it will, on those occasions where I might be on an unfamiliar lake. Since I probably won't have a chance to use it until March .... I'm trying to get all the owners of this unit to post to my thread, so I can get a jump start on how to use it, before I take it out again.

I've played with the emulator program, on my computer, but it's a generic deal & it's only good for learning what all the menus & buttons will do. "On the water use" is where I'm going to have to learn all the tweaks for settings, since I really don't expect the "real time" image to be anything like, or as good as the pre-programmed emulator's image. Even the simulator program (in the unit, itself) is probably on par with the emulator program, so it's not going to be any better.

Good luck! When you get the thing figured out let me know and I will get mine back out of the box and try it again.
