The Garmin units will work just fine. I have a Garmin Legend HCS handhead with lake maps that I use all the time.

Okay here's the deal. Right now I'm still saving to get my new decked out Alumacraft later this year. In the meantime I need a means to mark structure I'm placing. I saw some GPS units at Walmart for around $120 that are Garmin units. I asked the person if it would work on water, because I don't know anything about a GPS right now. They didn't know. So do you guys have any input for a unit that is waterproof and will serve me until I get my HDS units in my new boat? Preferably under $150 since I wont have much use for it later on.

should work just fine, keep the receipt and if it doesn't do what you want, take it back.
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
Academy Sports had the Garmin E Trex on sale for 79.95 Christmas. That is the best for the money, in my opinion. I still carry one in addition to two other GPS on boat. They are regular about 99.95
I'm going to bass pro tomorrow after my unit finishes up for the day at the armory so I'll see what I can find there.
