    Default Xducer mounting option

Looking at moving the TM xducer to the back on the transom but don't want to drill any more holes in my tracker PT175. I have a Merc 60 2stroke on my boat, and it has a metal plate mounted to the bottom of the main motor mount. Would this be an acceptable place to mount a xducer for use when Longlining? This plate is below the water line when I'm LL'g. The plate I'm referring to is the gray plate that runs the width of the motor mount. I'm thinking of some angle iron bolted up to the two holes on the ends and then mount the xducer mounting bracket to the angle iron, set off to the sides far enough to clear the lower unit when it's all the way down.

I don't know if you have mounted it like you are describing, but I wanted to put a second fish finder and transducer on the transom so I could see depth changes while running the outboard. I have a 14 ft. jon boat. I went to the craft section at wal-mart and bought an acrylic block and used some marine epoxy and mounted that to the transom in a position where I could mount the tranducer. Works great and didn't have to drill a hole in the boat. Just drilled pilot holes in the acrylic to mount the transducer.

If you were only concerned about using the transducer while under electric power and the engine trimmed up, it would probably work. Running the main engine would create too much turbulence for good sonar readings.

That (gray bar) is your sacrificial anode. It serves a purpose. It is the most negative point on your boat and is an electrolysis bar. Don't know what covering it would do. The bars are usually made of zinc. Ask a mechanic.

I would think you would lose a lot of your image if you mount that high on the boat. Like Wilbur's pic, the xducer should be just below the bottom of the boat so the cone can shoot out....with it up near the bottom of the motor, the beam will be essentially cut in half.

well, I mounted a piece of aluminum angle to the gray bar shown above, and then the xducer to the alum angle, and seems to work fine the 2 or 3 trips I've made since doing it. I did this primarly to avoid the dreaded "snapped ducer wire" from using the ipilot anchor lock and the head spinning over 360*, does not seem to affect the picture on the FF, now just have to run the wire under the floor or get it mounted in a more permanent manner.
