Thread: Can I reduce speed of trolling motor?

Might also look into something like this .... 24v 30a should do it ..... don't know the wattage for a 70lb 24v motor but you should be able to find out via MG website or the owner's manual if you have it.
A little waterproofing and you should be in business for ~$50

I am going to try and hook it up as 12V and try that. Will update when done.

Right. We had a report last year of a 24v motor hooked up wrong to the batteries & only 12v getting to the TM. When the wiring error was corrected, owner reported much higher thrust.

Iv got the same motor on my 17 foot triton, and i too feel like I can ski behind the boat with the troller running. It runs to fast to troll on #1, and just adjusting the position of the boat with a touch is too much.
There is no way to slow down the Motor Guide. So Iv been told. I wonder if it will work with just 1 battery?

You can run a 24v DC motor on 12v. You will get half the performace.

I have a MG pro series 43# 12v 5 speed I'm looking to get rid of. It would pull my tracker pt175 at around 1mph all day long, it still works good, speed 5 is a bit noisy at times, but in good condition. If interested, pm me. Merry xmas.

You could try a heavy duty Rheostat. you might wanna PM Cane pole as to what size you would need. Maybe one from an old Welder.

Hooked it up 12V. Slowed it down a lot. Might try a DC motor control on it to make it a lot more adjustable for trolling.
