Default In the market for a new Fish finder

Opinions on the best unit and why in the $100 to $150 range. Can't swing a high dollar unit.

Of all the DF technologies out today other than 2/d, (SI/DI/GPS)....

I find GPS Chartplotting as the most beneficial to my everyday fishing...

This is the lowest end HB I can find with GPS...

Lowrance Mark 5 is a decent fishfinder, price is around 160.00. I did have one of these on my boat and it shows up brushtops good.

This is what I use and works great. I personally think it's the best value under $200 out there. 320v240 Resolution, color and temp.
At $129 it can't be beat. I'm pretty sure the review of "1 star" was from someone who did not know how to adjust the finder. I can see my 4" tube baits when jigging directly under the boat for LM.

Kenny ... in that price range, "best" is arbitrary. IF we knew WHERE you were going to use it, and WHAT you expected to see "on screen", and HOW deep the water you'd be using it in ... then we'd have a better shot at suggesting something in the $100-150 range.

You'd also have to realize that a 2D unit w/20deg cone angle, is only going to show you depth & a cone shaped pattern of water column. That cone shaped pattern will only show a circle of the bottom structure, that's approx. 1/3 as wide as the depth of water you're in (ie - if you're in 10fow .. the circle will only be 3ft wide -- or if in 21fow .. the circle is only 7ft wide).

    ... cp

I know theyre expensive (everything is nowadays:rolleyes but if you wanna move into a brand new world of fishing you should save for something with GPS atleast. Just my 2 cents...

Decided to hold off a bit and just spring for a quality unit(bigger screen, dual cone, etc). Only thing is I'd like one for console and one for front of boat.

Not being sure what your requirements are for a sonar, gps/color/lake maps/ect and I have been crappie fishing only for a couple years so experience is not a strong point with me... I have a tracker with a black and white HB with the single cone that I have had a couple years...$160....A pontoon with a newer HB black and white duel cone... $195... and personally I have been well satisfied with the performance of both these units, they have improved the enjoyment and success of my crappie fishing a great deal... Weighing the cost of those two units to the cost of two units that might cost 6 or 8 hundred dollars for each, and I am still wondering how much more successful one would be over the other in actual use... I would think most of us fish the same lakes on a fairly regular basis and it depends on your fishing habits as do you fish the same waters most of the time... twelve or fifteen hundred dollars is a big chunk of change out of my bank account and I just don't think it could improve my fishing success enough to ever justify that expense.
