    Default New HDS unit.

I just purchased another hds unit for the front of my boat.I have an 8 on the consle and I'm adding a 7 up front. My TM is a Motorguide Tour edition. I read somewhere that the TM will need a ground wire. I only plan on running a 2d ducer on the TM. Could someone explain this to me?Wwhere, what and how and any picks would be helpful.

Also, how many of you guys solder your wiring connections. Is this a good or bad idea?

    Thanks In advance.

it kind of matters what else you have on the battery your using for the HD unit,,,, some run a decated line to a battery, not being used for starting or bilge or live well. I just run a seperate battery and no ground to speak of and no problems... wish I could be of more help.

Actually I still haven't gotten the unit it yet. I ordered from Brian @ BBG Marine and its going to be delivered tomorrow. So far my thoughts were going to be to run it off the starting battery and to solder all the connections. It would be easier to run it from the TM battery but before I do anything, I will read the info from Cane Pole (thanks Cane Pole). I've never had any TM interference on any electronics but I though somewhere the Motorguide Tour edition created some problems. I actually wasn't sure if the problem I read about had to do with the 2d or the LSS1.

I'm heavy into deer season right now so I was going to hook it up in the evenings over the next week or so and maybe try to get it on the water over Thanksgiving weekend. I figured I may as well ask on here to see if anyone heard of any problems. I could save some time of doing a do-over.

One must remember that interference can be created by many different sources..just 1 of which may be the TM...there are even rare cases where 2 boats close enough together (each running sonar) can cause interference...

If you are just getting ready to do an install...it may be worth your while to just hook it up and test it...you may 1 of the lucky few that needs no modifications at all to prevent sonar interference...

If you do experience interference..then it's just a process of elimination to track the interference source down and rectify it...using Canepole's provided info...

PS...I solder all of my marine application wiring splices..and try to make those splices totally water proof...
