    After reading all of this I am looking for prices. I found the elite 5 dsi Gold combo for $447.00 on Ebay. I believe that there is a $100.00 rebate on this unit also. So far that is even less than the quotes i am getting on the non-gold units. Still checking my info though. I just may be able to afford 1 yet. (Happy Dance)

    @CP, you the man!! Thanks for the "return to vessel" tip, I definitely appreciate you and all the info this thread has provided. But there is no substitute for being on the water and using the unit!

    Is there depth finder out there without GPS that is simple to use that has got the down imaging I have a handheld GPS to get me to the treetops. I just need a good one to see under the water.

    The Lowrance Elite 5X doesn't have a GPS, just downscan.

    Has anyone tried one of the cell phone type screen protectors on these? Thinking about getting one because of water spots. I have to clean the screen after every use and I'm afraid I'll eventually scratch the anti glare coating on it.

    Ok I bought the elite 5x dsi and plan on mounting this weekend. I've read all 45 pages and really liked the input on the sonar coverage. After looking at my unit it states the beam is30 degrees at 800 kHz and 55 degrees @ 455 kHz with -3dB. Does anyone know where I can find a chart like the one posted earlier in the thread that shows the area coverage at - 10 dB?

    Here is one that I made. Name: image.jpg Views: 732 Size: 52.0 KB. I figured multiplying the 455 kHz depth by 1.04 would give me the bottom coverage. For the 800 kHz I multiplied the depth by 0.53. (Example: 10' of water would convert to 10.4 on the 455 and 5.3 on the 800)
