I new to the site. I have been reading this thread as Ihave just purchased the Elite 5 DSI myself. The information provided here hasbeen very helpful. To add to the discussion, it is possible to take screenshots (not logging though). Just press the Light/Power button then Zoom +. Thiswill save a jpg of the screen onto the data card. Internal software 2.8 orgreater is needed.
The discussion regarding the ultrasonic’s is very interesting, esp. about thebeam shape and operating frequencies. I am in the aerospace ultrasonic businessmyself, DSI makes sense to me. When I get more hands on experience with theinstrument, I will be happy to provide more comments, practical and theoreticalin the near future.

Well, after using the unit a few times I still haven't figured out the mapping/gps. If I am on the full map mode, or the split screen, the map does not change/follow as the boat moves, it is stuck where I marked my first waypoint. The only way to move the map is to arrow to where the boat is currently. I'm hoping it is just a setting I can change quickly, but I didn't have a chance to mess with it too much on the water because of the stiff wind. Any recommendations?

From what I have noted using the instrument in demo mode, When using the curser to create a waypoint, this puts the instrument into editing mode. To return to vessel mode, press menu then select "return to vessel" I believe Map scrolling will resume.

I'll give it a shot this weekend. Thanks David.

Good info. You certainly didn't get that out of the users manual.

For anyone that s on the fence about one of these units, Overtons has them on sale this week for 499 and then you get your 100 dollar rebate... You really can't beat that deal. I have been following this thread for a couple of weeks now. Thanks for all of the help on figuring this thing out!!

Been using mine and I really like it. I do not expect it to really show fish well but the bottom structure images have been very helpful and clear.
