What size micro SD card is needed? I assume all it is used for is storing waypoints?

nothing bigger than a 2 meg

just got my new unit and have not been on the water yet so a lot of fishing in the living room!

very poor user manual and factory says no plans for an emulator so its' learn as you go

did talk to Doctor Sonar and he is planning a demo video Jan/feb so that might be a good source

The manual is a bit of a dud. But, the Lowrance website has a emulator for the Elite 5's ... it's just a combination / all in one kinda deal, that shows most all the functions of the various Elite 5 units. There's no "walk-thru", so it's pretty much a trial & error deal, as to what buttons produce what effects. Pop-ups tell you what each menu button does, but there's so many different choices that it's hard to keep them all straight.

I've looked at several video's about the unit (youtube), but most of them really don't go beyond "look at this unit work" Rofl or they're in a foreign language. Of course, if someone did do a complete run thru video on all of the menu's & submenu's of the map program & the graphing capabilities ... it would take them two or three hours Rofl

Of course, 99% of the Youtube videos are wasted cyberspace ... so it didn't surprise me that there weren't any good tutorial videos on this unit. And, I doubt very seriously that we'll ever see a 3hr "how to" video on using/setting this unit. That's why I'm running this thread !! So we can combine our knowledge & experiences, and get everyone that owns it to get the best possible outcome from using it.

Bill .... I was under the impression that a card was only needed if you wanted lake maps w/contours (Navionics or Hot Spots) and the unit's internal mapping would hold your waypoints/tracks/etc. Could I be mistaken on that ?? Anybody know for sure (having done it this way) ??

You do NOT need a memory card to save waypoints, the unit will store them. I used a 2 gb card in mine to transfer waypoints from my HDS or computer. It's not a bad idea to have one to store your waypoints on or transfer to your computer for back up in case something goes wrong.

    Good point, Justin !!

I've got a 16mb FujiFilm XD picture card, that came with my digital camera ... would that work in this unit ?? I know it wouldn't hold much, being only 16mb ... but, it's not being used for anything else but a backup to the 128mb card that I'm using in the camera, now.

Got a link to the card you're using, so if I see one at the store I'll know what I'm looking for ??

I just re-read your post. No the XD card will not work, it has to be a Micro SD. Sorry I didn't catch it the first time.

Got it yesterday but I'm still trying to get the Terrova mounted. I've got to get my body into a place on the boat that it doesn't want to go. LOL You are right tho, the manual is a joke.
