Anybody have any idea why Lowrance discontinued the Elite 5 DSI ... instead of keeping it & discontinuing the Elite 4 series ??? I wonder if the comparable HB's having 2d capability, forced them to drop the E5DSI & bring out the E5HDI ??

    Note to users...

The short vertical dashed lines in images above have been confirmed by Dr. Sonar as "sonar noise" (specialist for Lowrance). I have the noise rejection turned on but I get these vertical lines from time to time and I just ignore them.

The E5DSI has a map card slot, in which you can place a 2GB blank micro-sd card for use in taking screenshots, or you can purchase a compatible Navionics or Fishing Hotspots card. The map cards come by region, so it depends on what state(s) you fish in as to what map(s) you would need. Check the available lakes on whatever brand map card you choose, so as to make sure all the lakes you'll be fishing are covered on the card.

The map card & blank card cannot be in the unit at the same time, since there's only one card slot available. The lake layout is shown on the base map as a blue area ... and there are some few lakes that have a few contours on them.

I chose not to purchase a map card, because I'm not (yet) into doing a lot of contour following (like in spider rigging, longline trolling, etc). I did, however, want to take screenshots & show them here, so I purchased a 2GB blank micro-sd card, card adapter, & (USB Flash Drive) reader for ~$8 .... as I do not have a sd card reader on my computer. Here's what I got ---- 2GB microSD Secure Digital TransFlash Card with Reader (BMZ-C)
