Rick/OA .... this emulator program is a VERY watered down version of the one I downloaded back when I first got my unit. Neither one, and especially this one, were specific to only the programs & capabilities of the Elite 5 DSI. You'll notice that, right away, when you turn the emulator on, as it will show fish ID symbols & depth of those symbols ... and the sonar setting says 200kHz (which is not on a E5DSI, which has 455kHz & 800kHz)![]()
I'd like to say that it is "better than nothing" ... but, it may be more confusing than helpful. IMHO

I hear ya pappy. I've actually spent more time playing with the display units at Cabela's than the emulator. I basically use the emulator to try to learn the logic of how the Lowrance menus work.
I just thought of another question. Does the Elite 5dsi have the capability to show a split screen of 455kHz/800kHz, or just sonar/chart?
Yep. And you can adjust the contrast for either or both.
Both .... and you can split the sonar/chart in "over" by going to:
Menu
Settings
System
Chart/Sonar split
Over
I had to do the 3.6 update to get the top/bottom split function, but the newer units are already updated.
Side by side Sonar split can be done three ways :
800kHz/455kHz or 2x zoom/455kHz or 2x zoom/800kHz
(but, so far, I haven't found a way to split the 800/455 screen with one over top of the other)

I haven't forgotten about you, FM .... I just keep changing some of my settings to see which works best for the conditions/situation.
PM me/or post with the settings you are using, where you can see "fish" but not "cover" ... maybe then I/we can offer you some setting changes that would remedy your situation.
Note: the speed your boat is moving is key to getting a good image, as is the depth of water (& the depth range setting you have your unit set on). Speeds of 0.5mph & up will give better images, since the sonar ping isn't constantly sending back a signal from the same object. That ends up giving you a picture like this :
And, as you'll notice, my speed is 0mph ... and the sonar is showing streaks across the screen, rather than a clear image of the brush pile I was over.
And, no ... I'm not showing the brush pile image of the waypoint shown on the chart side. I drifted off that waypoint, after catching a fish, and just happened to drift over an unmarked brush pile. I had the camera handy, so I snapped a photo. This was before I had a micro sd card & knew how to take screenshots(& not too good with the camera or its zoom feature, either
)

I finally got my new elite 5 dsi on the water today and this is what I think is a bridge piling. What do you guys think is in front of the pilings ? To me it looks like bait fish but I don't know.
Hey Guys, I just got an Elite 7 DSI combo and I am trying to download the latest update but I can't get it to open on my PC. It is a zip file which I have always been able to open but this one I can not open. Any suggestions on what I need to do to open it so I can copy to SD chip and update my DF?
Thanks
