I have. The brand that I purchased increase the glare just a tad if you're not wearing polarized glasses because of the gloss finish but if you are, no problems. I just cleaned the fish slime and water spots off of my screen this morning with a bottle of Windex after yesterday's trip and didn't have to worry about scratching the screen. I'm satisfied with them.
Anyone use a transducer shield with the elite 5 dsi? I've looked on their website, but I don't see where it says specifically for an elite 5.
The trolling motor bracket for it is basically a transducer shield.
I have the shield on mine. This is the one you need for the E5DSI: Lowrance DSI Trolling Motor Transducer Adaptor
It will also work with the Elite 5x DSI & Mark 5x DSI . You will have to pop the transom capsule open, to get the transducer out ... then lay it in the TM shield & mount it to the bottom of your TM with a band clamp or the plastic lock straps.
This is how mine is mounted :

looks good thanks
The new units come with the transducer disassembled and they also come with a tm mount in the box.
So I tried following this thread and made it to about page 17 before I fell asleep! LOL!
I'm a newb here but I have this graph and I too have had mix luck/experience with it but recently, I played with the contrast (this unit's version of sensitivity) and I think it's set around upper 50's. I've had some good luck with structure photos. I'll upload some here later.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a screen protector for this unit?
Also, do you have to have a Navionics SD card in order for the Lowrance unit to recognize the card? I have a standard 8gig card and I downloaded a high definition map of my home lake onto the card. I inserted the card and selected "Navionics" and the contours are still at 10ft range instead of 3ft range (I think that's the increased contour range anyway)
I could swear I found a place online that sells blank "Navionics" SD cards so you can download some free maps for select lakes. I don't see the point in buying a $150 card for a few lake. I don't need the entire central part of the US or all Southern states. A few lakes and I'm good.
Thanks!
Here are a few photos from my unit.

Yeah, this thread has gotten a bit lengthy, hasn't it :yikes :Rofl
I don't know about using a 8gig card ... I was under the impression that the unit could only process a 2gig card. Are you sure the unit was actually reading the card, or was the lake already contoured in the base map of the unit ?? The reason I ask, is that my base map has contours (7'-17'-27') on a small local lake ... but, not on the larger lakes I've checked.
If you find that it is possible to download a few lake maps to a blank card, and the unit recognizes & processes it ... I think many of us would like to know all the particulars. I know I certainly would !! Currently, I'm using a 2G micro-sd card just to take screenshots ... so I can post them on here. I'm not full tilt on spider rigging or longline trolling, yet ... so, having contours on my maps isn't a high priority.
I am curious, though .... about some of the overlay info you have showing on your screen. Specifically ...
avg/max speed (how did you get those to show, & why)
0.2 ... at top of screen (what is that)
How did you manage to get FIVE overlays to show on screen (I tried to add the "time", and my unit dropped my "SOG" overlay)
I'm not asking so much for myself, as I am for other owners that might want these overlays. I keep mine set to show only 3 (depth/temp/speed), and keep them set as small as possible & still readable, so that my screen shows a bigger picture of what I'm passing over.
I am personally interested in the max spd overlay, though ... since my speedo says my boat hits about 54mph @ WOT, but some of my buddies are skeptical. I'd like to check my actual speed with the GPS, without having to have a buddy lay down on the front deck & watch the unit ... or max out the SOG overlay size & try & read it from the console while running @ WOT down the lake :Rofl .... I don't really care if it is/isn't going that fast, I'm just curious about how fast it IS going & whether or not the speedo is even close.
Oh, and nice pics !! Thanks for sharing !
