A regular Elite 5DSI does not come with a micro sd lake map card, just an internal map that shows lakes as "blue colored areas" (though some lakes will have some contours shown, but in larger increments ... like 7ft -17ft - 27ft) It does have a waterproof card slot, which will take the blank 2GB micro sd cards .... or Navionics Hotmaps, Fishing Hot Spots maps, or Lowrance Insight maps cards.
The Elite 5DSI Gold model ... comes with the Navionics Gold map card ( as stated in the West Marine ad .... a special-issue custom 2GB Navionics Gold microSD card with coastal/offshore coverage of US and Canadian waters along with the Great Lakes, Alaska, Hawaii, the Bahamas and over 125 major Canadian lakes)

Thanks Cappiepappy, Finally found one at ACADEMY Sports yesterday for $399.99. Had to drive 65 miles one way to pick it up----but saving the $150.00 or so was worth it. Thanks for the help
Good deal !!
NOW .... go here & bookmark this page : http://www.lowrance.com/Root/Lowranc...-10153-001.pdf
This will help you discover how to use all the menus & settings on your unit.
I JUST NOW found this page, while researching some info for the Elite 5 unit, being discussed on another thread. I've bookmarked it, myself ... and plan to look through it, more extensively, when I get the chance.
Looking forward to your continued participation in this discussion !!

Good link Pappy.
Thanks
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone uses this unit in the Atchafalaya basin. I was playing with one in Bass Pro and a very large percentage of bayous and canals are missing. So, now I'm trying to figure out what mapping chip might be best for Louisiana bayous.
Great link Pappy! Thanks for psoting. I haven't hooked mine up yet. I've read the manual and figured I'd just have to get on the water and figure it out. Not even sure where to mount it yet.
I just bought the Elite-5 DSI at Academy for $399.99 along with the Navonics map with 1 foot contours. This thread has helped alot. A couple of questions:
How does the scroll rate speed relate with the trolling speed? Do I see the same thing at a certain position at 0.5 mph vs. 5 mph? If I pass a spot and I see interesting, does it matter what speed I am going?
Second, my friend wants the same unit but has a Mark-5 DSI. Are the transducer, cable, and mount compatible? He would like to just swap out the head units.
Lastly third, is there some sort of emulator program I can use on my computer at home to get use to all the functions?
I appreciate your help. Love the thread. Thanks.
I am considering buying a Elite 5DSI/chartplotter for $399.99 and on this thread i have heard alot say the manuel is pretty useless...My question is can someone give me a link on here that has better menu instructions on it?Thanks for the thread CP,really interesting.
