How do you change the format of coordinates? For instance I have several hundred waypoints in the old standard deg, min, sec format but so far have not found a way to change the default of just deg and min format.

I used the chart that Kosmo posted and made a few trig calculations on the down imaging and determined that the down imaging is a slice (beam) of an approximate 30 degree cone angle from 800khz and 60 degree cone angle slice for the 455khz. I know nothing of crystal designs, but I have seen them manufactured. Cone angles are relative to the point of signal strength measurement anyway. Remember? -3db, -10db. It is not a linear measurement, but logarithmic. Size and shape of crystal determine the frequency.
Since the specs reference slice of cones, then I would suspect parabola which I remember not of. Ask Pan Man. He is a mechanical engineer and maybe could explain it better. The manufacturer's still have the tooth under the pillow..

I havent been on here in a few days and this thread took off! I have this thing on the water several times lately and still love it, but i'm with Barnacle in wondering how you change the coordinates or can you convert the old ones or do you have to use the Navionics chip? Very informative so far. So did anyone ever figure out the whole cone degree size thing?
I don't know, Rickie ... they thought us smart enough to use this unit with that "so called" manual they put out Rofl
And they lumped all of the Elite series units into ONE emulator program .... hehe !!
Maybe they're giving us more credit than we realize.... but, yeah, you'd think that this "award winning" unit would have all the spec info one could think to ask for, right out there in plain sight !!
Personally ... I think I'm going to go with the 455/75 - 800/45 - 6deg f/r numbers, until I hear otherwise. At least we have a chart with those angles/equations to go by. But, I'd still like confirmation that these numbers are correct. Might have to send Jason a PM & get him involved in this thread.
For me, at least .... having GPS/maps/water temp, along with a color DF, is worth the monies that mine cost me ... even if the unit doesn't have 2d, known l/r cone angles, or shows a screen picture anywhere close to what the emulator/simulator programs show. :p But, I'll still keep this thread going ... 'cause the more I know about this unit, the better I'll be able to use it, and hopefully it will benefit others that have or are thinking about having one.

Tim ... there used to be one, but it was a composite of all the Elite series unit's capabilities ... which could cause some problems when you tried to access a function you saw on the emulator, that wasn't actually on "your" unit's program.
I don't think it's operational, now ... as I cannot find any link to it. I deleted mine, some time ago, after figuring out that it contained menu items that were not on my unit. I have a extra power/tdx cord & jumper battery ... so I can run the unit while it's at home & not on the boat. And, no ... I'm not suggesting anyone go buy an extra oneI'm just saying that's how I can "play" with my unit, even though it isn't on the boat.
I'm thinking that Lowrance is concentrating more on the HDS units/technology. I can't even get on the Lowrance website, as it currently has a server error
I did find this : Product Emulators ... but the Elite 5 DSI unit is not on this list.... just the Elite 5 & Elite 5x

Tracker ... here's the listing for what Navionics map chips are compatible with a Elite 5 DSI :

I doubt they'll take it back, from wherever you bought it ... so you'll likely have to try & sell it on the Personal Classifieds Forum (or mention it on your state forum), and try & get most of your money back.
