Something is still confusing me here because my 1197 shows no adjustment setting for the 455khz sonar beam (by itself) unless "Quadrabeam" is selected in my "transducer select" select setting...

Let's try this... Go under the "setup" tab to "User Mode"... Make sure this setting is set to "Advanced"...

Then back out of the "setup" tab and go to the "sonar"tab...under the "setup" tab there should be a setting that says "transducer select"... Make sure this is set to " Hi Def Sidescan"...

OK it seems that your unit does not have the same transducer that my 1197 came with...(from looking at the HB website for your unit)...

I will do more research into your query...

In the mean time.... Maybe someone that has your same unit can step in here and help while I'm looking for an answer...

    justcamealabdaddy,
Sorry I have not been by to reply to your questions, but every now and than they let me out on vacation... so I go!

Rickie is correct in that the only time you should see the 455kHz Sensitivity menu is when the Transducer Select menu is set to “Quad Beam”. The setting you should be using with your stock Compact Side Imaging (CSi) transducer is “Compact Sidescan”.

Just a few words (okay, maybe more than a few…) on the various Sensitivity menus:
When you adjust any of the Sensitivity menus you are not turning up or down the power of the transmitter in the unit; rather you are telling the microprocessor in the unit to show more or less ‘stuff’ on the display of the unit. This ‘stuff’ can be returned sonar signals from fish, structure and the bottom. With enough adjustment you can also influence the color that the unit will use to show these ‘sonar targets’.

Sensitivity menu – affects the 2D or conventional sonar only. This menu will adjust the 200kHz and 83kHz 2D sonar together. If you are using the “Quad Beam” setting for the Transducer Select menu, then this menu will also adjust the 455kHz sonar returns from the Side Beams of the QuadraBeam transducer [Note: the Side Beams of this transducer and its sonar are different than the Side Imaging Beams of the CSi transducer].

83kHz Sensitivity – affects only the 83kHz 2D sonar and is used to balance the sonar returns from the wider 83kHz sonar versus the narrower 200kHz sonar. This is why the settings for this menu run from -10 to +10. If you don’t think that the 83kHz sonar is showing enough sonar returns, or you think that these sonar returns are being shown with a strong enough color; then set this menu to a higher setting.

455kHz Sensitivity – affects only the 455kHz Side Beam sonar returns (only accessible when the Transducer Select menu is set to the “Quad Beam” menu setting which is used when the unit is connected to a QuadraBeam transducer) that are shown when viewing the Side Beam View on the unit. The settings for this menu run from -10 to +10 as well.

SI Sensitivity – affects only the sonar returns that are displayed in the Side Imaging View or any of the combo views that are showing the Si sonar. On those units (not the 798’s) that can use more than one Si sonar frequency; this menu will change the sensitivity level of whichever Si sonar frequency has been selected in the Side View Frequency menu.

Down Sensitivity – affects only the sonar returns that are displayed in the Down Imaging View or any of the combo views that are showing the Di sonar. On those units (not the 798’s) that can use more than one Si/Di sonar frequency; this menu will change the sensitivity level of whichever sonar frequency has been selected in the Side View Frequency menu.

Where you set the sensitivity menu? This is a user preference setting and will vary from one person to another. Don’t think you are seeing enough stuff or if you want to see every sonar return no matter how small? Than turn the appropriate sensitivity menu up. Think you are seeing sonar returns from small fish and waterborne debris? Than turn down the appropriate sensitivity menu. Many use the Si and Di sensitivity menus as a contrast control, while some ‘old school’ flasher users will set the 2D sensitivity menus so that they can just barely see a second sonar return.
