Default Question for DoubleGobble or anyone that might can advise me

Doublegobble, thanks for you setup instructions on the DI, but I was wandering if I can bring my unit in the house and connect it to power supply and put in to the simulate mode and tweak the settings like you have posted or will I have to have a live image ? as you know simulate has what looks to be scans that are saved in the memory but I dont know that for sure. So if I tweak those setting by doing the cursor adjustment while unit is froze, will I be able to save the setting in there ?? the reason I ask is that I am not sure when I will be able to get back on the water and it would be nice if when I do get back to be ready for em

    thanks

Your unit will save any setting you input while the unit is in "simulator" mode...

This mode is forced selected when your unit first powers up and the screen gives you the 3 choices to choose from...

Conversely , if you do not force the unit into "simulator" mode ( and touch nothing at this point in the startup) the unit will automatically put itself into "point of sale" mode...

Any changes made to the unit while in this "point of sale" mode will not not be saved into the unit....

Also, you can make a power cord for unit and play with unit 120v power...

Buy an extra power cord from HB...
    Buy a 12 v adapter ( 12v igloo or powermate cooler type)
Install a 3 amp fuse in the + wire...

    maachuu,
Not DoubleG but I can answer the question for him: Yes you can but you must do so while in the forced Simulator mode and not in the normal Simulator mode that the unit will automatically go to when powered on without a transducer being connected. To get into the forced Simulator mode:
    1. Power the unit on as you would normally do.
    2. While the unit is displaying the title screen (will be showing something like: “Humminbird 997c Si”); press the MENU button and allow the unit to continue to start up.
    3. The display should change to show three or four menu options (depending on the unit and software version you are running), one of which is “Simulator”.
    4. Use the Up and Down Arrow buttons and finally the Right Arrow button to select “Simulator”. After a few moments the unit will start showing simulated sonar and GPS data.

The differences between the (Point Of Sale) Simulator mode and the forced Simulator mode are that the POS Simulator mode does not remember any menu or setting changes and will reset them all about two minutes after the last button press. It was designed for use as a Point Of Sale Simulator for in store use. The forced Simulator mode was added so that users could make and save menu changes as well as changes to their waypoints, tracks and routes.

Just a caution here: what may look to be the best settings for the simulator sonar may not be the best for the water you will be using it on. So you may still have to tweak it a little bit. The simulator will allow you to become more familiar with the changes you will see when you adjust a menu item though, so practice until you are familiar with the menus.

Maachuu, I think I remember somewhere that the 12v adapter has to be rated for for a minimum 1 amp.....

    Maybe Greg can confirm this...

I think the igloo or Coleman cooler type are rated at 6 amp which is more than enough to power you unit..

Here's a link the Coleman... I think Walmart has these sometimes.....

Actually we have had several different 120VAC adapters made for us over the years – not all of which will be able to run the larger units. I use one rated at 1.0A at 12VDC in my office but know that there other versions that were only 500mA (half an Amp) and others that were 5+Amps.
