    Default Hds gps

I have an hds5 and can not get the gps to work. When I turn the unit on and view the chart, it just shows mountainous terrain with the the lake or river. Essentially it is competely zoomed out. When I zoom it in, it does not go to a lake map. What is wrong? I got this unit about 1 year ago and just have not had time to fool with it. Maybe you guys can give me some pointers. I have another boat, which I use much more, that has an hds 10 on it. When I go to the chart mode, it shows a lake map like it should and everything is normal. Could it be that my hds 5 does not have the proper cards or something? I don't think the 10 has a card but it shows all u.s. lakes. At least it shows lakes all the way from florida to kentucky. I would appreciate any help.

are you settings the same on both the 5 and 10? I have played with demo's but no hands on experience. Are the menu settings the same and do you access the settings in the same manner? If yes, set the 5 up with the same settings as the 10

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

You got a clear view of the sky? If so, MENU MENU highlight system then arrow down and Highlight satellites, then enter. This is you satellite view page. See if the unit is picking up the satellites.

Cane pole, It appears as though I am looking at a satellite image. When I zoom in there is no cursor for the boat, no lake map and generally no water. I give your suggestion a try. Thank you very much.

The next time you have it outside where it can find the satelites turn it on and let it boot up. If it does the same thing hit the EXIT button, mine did the same thing, so I started pushing buttons, the exit button chaged it to my location. Don't ask me why though.

Right. When in doubt, hit the exit button a couple of times. This closes any open panels.

Probably the issue. If you scroll around with the cursor, you have to hit exit to show your position again.
