Using i-Pilot's spot lock and recorded track features

Do you go to a favorite restaurant, read the whole menu, but always order the same dish? That's what's happening to my i-Pilot's track-recording feature. I think about ways to use it, but always bypass the track recorder in favor of spot-lock (the best crappie fishing tool invented since the brush pile!) I do very little long line trolling & maybe that's the whole answer, but I'd like to know how other i-P owners use the track record/playback feature to improve their crappie catching.

I do a lot of slow trolling and follow a break line, set the record button and can retrace my same catching pattern, but I like you use the spot lock every trip,,,,

i have a question re: spot lock. if for example i hit spot lock to stay in one spot, and the wind kicks up , would i not have to increase the power on my trolling motor to keep my boat in the spot lock postion or drift off? in fact, any wind would be a variable with spot lock would it not?

Spot lock is automatic. It works pretty good in steady winds out of same heading. If winds are gusty, spot lock struggles. In gusty conditions, I use my foot pedal.

I like it. Lots better than fooling with a marker.

soooo what your saying is that spot lock adjusts the speed of the trolling motor automatically to keep it in place?????????

Its gotta be easier on the Bats cause its not running the whole time,just when needed.

Corker, I do alot of longline trolling and have found that if I'm recording a track and happen to cross lots of schools of fish (am catching alot) after a certain distance I just track back over that track I recorded. I used to draw a breadcrumb line on my graph where I've trolled but now with recording and tacking back I dont have to watch the graph to stay on a line anymore. After a distance of recording, and not being as productives as I was wanting it to be, I just stop the record, wait a couple minutes (still trolling) and begin recording again. That way when (and if) it does get good I have the track recorded in case I want to double back and fish it again.Thumbs Up
