I QUIT FISHIN, I ONLY GO CATCHIN NOW!!!
Say what ever you want about Optima batteries but try running 2 HDS 10s and 2 Lowrance 520s for 8 hrs. with out running the big motor and see if the boat will start with any battery but an Optima. Been there and done that! For two years tried 4 different batteries---Delco voyager, all the name brands, nothing would start the 250 Opti. Went to the Blue top D31m Optima and not a bit of trouble. Also running the live well. Z21.
I've had good luck with the walmart brand, but I have a 12v TM, nor do I normally fish for 8 hrs either. I don't have the high end electronics either, and always wondered if they used more juice, guess Rangerz21 answered that for me. Guess it would depend more on what electronics you have and such. You can pay lots of $$ for a particular battery, and it may or may not last, or pay less $$ and it last just as long or not. If a battery last 3 yrs of regular use and starts to die, I figure it's just part of deal, a $100 battery for 3 yrs is $33/yr, which is what you can spend taking the wife out for a meal on Sunday. How long does a tank of gas last is another way of looking at it as well.
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
I bought 2 new Optima blue tops for trolling with a 24V system. I troll 5-8 hrs at a time but only about 15 days per year. I have an on-board charger, so the batteries always get put on charge at the end of a day's fishing.
The Optimas worked great at first, but about a month after the end of the warranty, I could only get about 2-3 hrs use out of them. I just purchased 2 XPS AGM batteries from Bass Pro Shops because of their superior warranty...0-18 months free replacement, 19-60 months prorated. The specs on the XPS batteries were also better than the Blue Tops'.
