Default Need a little HDS help

So, I'm starting to play with the HDS a little bit and try to figure out how and where to do stuff.

One thing that's driving me nuts is my Side Imaging. With it running at 100' left and right, the first 30' is iluminated beautifully, but it's dark past that. Yesterday, I changed it to 50' and the last 10' is still dark. I was thinking that my transducer possibly was angled down too much, so I adjusted it on the water with no change. Thinking I may have it reversed, I adjusted it up on the water and still no change. Now confused, I rotated it in increments from 0 degrees to 180 with no change. I'm thinking I've got a setting that's giving me a weak return and not necesarily the angle of the transducer that is the problem. Any suggestions?

'Nuther deal is I noticed yesterday that my Side Imaging and Regular 2D depth readings are some 1.9' different. I was thinking that since I have a US/2 and SI transducer all ethernetted together that I really don't know which transducer is feeding which output. Where do I determine and change that? Then again, if 2D is off the front and SI is obviously off the back, there really shouldn't me that much of a difference since I don't have any depth offset calculated. The SI ducer is on the jackplate and if I had to guess, I would say there is only at most 1 foot of elevation difference and most likely in the 6" range. ??

Any thoughts or ideas on either issue would be appreciated.

    1. what your setting for your lss-1. I usually keep mine at 800 khz 80-100ft and contrast 72-74.

    2. you can change your 2d keel set in your sonar menu options. Usually you going run deep on your TM, because it hang lower the transom transducer.

Yeah, that contrast setting is right around what mine is set at. I get some truely amazing pictures.
I keep my side image around 3 - 4 times water depth.

If I switch my ducer to 455kz I think the contrast is set around 50 +/-

There is a post "HDS discussions and interpitations" started by Crappiegirl as you figure things out how about sharing with the rest of us.

Let the smoke out of the transducer. Give it room to breathe. You choking it.

Maybe I've got to recheck that 455 setting. I haven't used it in a while. I'm over 50 my memory has faded....
    What settings you using?

I change mine anytime I don't like the view. Nothing improves or gets worse if you don't push a button. I mostly use 800Kz on SI. And I use the 3X rule.

Structure depth reading. I believe this reading follows the soft/hard bottom area depth. Observation. Watch this reading. You have plenty of time to observe before you get your 1 fishie.

    No depth offset for DI.
