    Default power drive question

I'm thinking about going to a 55 lb thrust PD V2 and was wondering just what the auto pilot does and how it works. I use the troller mostly for getting around tree tops and stick ups where it's not a good idea to run the big motor.
I already run with 3 batteries and don't want to add more so I'm staying with 12V just moving up from 40 lbs thrust PD V1. Also trying to stay on budget.
    Any comments welcome
    thanks

The auto-pilot on the V2 controls the compass setting you put into it. If you want to fish down a bank or ledge, you point the head of the motor in that compass direction and engage the auto-pilot.The motor will then steer along the course you selected to the horizon if that is how far you want to go.

The I-pilot requires a lot of use with the hands, which for me they are already over worked.

Their is no good way to install a external tranducer on the trolling motor per Minn Kota.
Best to buy with build-in transducer.

Get the 12 volt terrova. You can run your humminbird cables and use the foot petal when your hands are full.

there is a good way to install a transducer on a PD I've got one on mine now. Just strapped it on with a very large hose clamp and it works fine. Minn-Kota just wants you to buy one with universal transducer, they make more money on it JMO

I use a Terrova with I-Pilot....but I troll a lot. Now if all I mainly fished was in the stick ups and trees.....I would not get a Terrova or a PD....I would get a cable foot control Minn Kota Maxxum.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Wannabe: I have the new Powerdrive V2. What did you do with the 40" of cable flopping in the breeze, getting into the base housing and hangs on the thumb screw that sets the depth of TM?
I installed it per Minn Kota instructions. When I E-Mailed them about the problem thay have no way to stablized the cable.
    Can anyone help?

That, or even a hand controlled tm since that is what I was most used to.

wire cable ties at the top and bottom of shaft with just enough play in the line to go over the depth stop and release lever. works for me, just have to be careful when deploying, never had a problem with retrieval, YET, sometime things happen. Also if you drill a small hole in the back fin on the trolling motor you can put a small cable tie there to keep the cable snug to the motor and help guide it to the shaft. From the top of shaft run the cable through the coiled cable from the troller to the end that attaches to the housing then to the depth finder
